Strengthening Local Roots: Preserving Culinary Heritage and Empowering Communities

A

t Mangata Seaside Hotel, we are dedicated to preserving and highlighting the local elements of North Evia while empowering the community. This commitment to sustainability and cultural appreciation is evident in two key on-going projects we have undertaken.

Community of Evia | Mangata Seaside | Rovies, Evia

Firstly, we have embarked on an oral history project to record, preserve, and utilize the rich gastronomic history of the area. Through our initial interviews, we have uncovered fascinating insights into the local cuisine's influences from Alexandria and Smyrna. We've also learned about the shared lunches among "Ermis" factory workers in the 1960s, the unique local batter, the cherished tradition of rooster stew on August 15th, and the lively May Day picnics that brought entire neighborhoods together. Along the way, we've gathered treasured recipes that showcase the culinary traditions of North Evia.

Secondly, we collaborate with local professionals to co-design premium, community-led signature experiences for our guests. These unique offerings, which can be found in the corresponding section of our website, are a testament to our commitment to fostering authentic connections between visitors and the local community. By providing opportunities for guests to immerse themselves in the culture, history, and traditions of North Evia, we aim to create lasting memories while supporting the community's economic and social well-being. Last but not least, we are always eager to support cultural projects that can have add value both to the locals and visitors. The first such project was the "Levante" exhibition, a captivating display of art and history that highlighted the cultural connections between North Evia and Venice.
